DIRECTOR

Ann Jacob Smith PhD, LCPC, NCC

Dr. Ann Jacob Smith is a board-certified psychotherapist who has been providing services to individuals and families for almost 30 years. She completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received her doctorate of philosophy in counseling at The George Washington University.

Her style is interactive, warm, and direct, with an emphasis on making sure the therapy is a good fit for you.  It is her personal philosophy that every session should feel productive, with the immediate goal of experiencing relief from your symptoms and the long-term goal of personal growth and change.  

Dr. Jacob Smith is now the Director of The Smith Counseling Group, a center that focuses on individual, group, and family therapy. Areas of expertise include family-based treatment (FBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-centered psychotherapy, and supervision and training.

Dr Jacob Smith is certified in Advanced Trauma Treatment, a Nationally Certified Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and in the State of Maryland is an Approved Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor Supervisor.

Anne Levin

Anne Miriam Levin, MSW, LCSW-C, specializes in individual, couples, and family counseling with additional training in Family Based Treatment (FBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for eating disorders, and Trauma Treatment. She completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Rochester and earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. 

Anne’s areas of focus include eating disorders, anxiety and depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, parenting support, bereavement, loss, and grief. She strives to create a therapeutic space that is warm, supportive, and non-judgmental as clients learn to identify and understand patterns and barriers that challenge their goals.

PSYCHIATRIST

Nicola Sater, MD

Dr. Sater is a board-certified psychiatrist who has been in practice since 2001. She completed medical school at Washington University in St. Louis and residency training at Johns Hopkins University in the Department of Psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Since then, she has been working in the DC metropolitan area both in private practice and at Sibley Memorial Hospital where she participated in the care of psychiatric inpatients, outpatients and provided consultation liaison services.

Dr. Sater is currently back in private practice and she treats adult patients with mood, anxiety, and psychotic disorders, and she has experience caring for patients suffering from eating disorders and chronic pain issues. She has utilized family-based treatment strategies in the past and has a long history of working closely with therapists, nutritionists, and primary care providers in the management of complex patient needs.
