Family Based Therapy (FBT)
Family-Based Treatment (FBT), also referred to as the "Maudsley method," is an evidence-based approach designed for adolescents at home experiencing symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN), or Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). It serves as a primary intervention when a child receives an eating disorder diagnosis, eliminating the necessity for higher levels of care or hospitalization.
In FBT, the family assumes a pivotal role as a support system, collaborating to implement a nutrition plan and acquire skills from the FBT therapist to guide the child back to healthy eating habits. Parents are central to the treatment process, actively participating in meal planning and providing assistance. Families frequently observe enhanced relationships among members post-FBT, creating a nurturing environment for everyone affected by the eating disorder.
Our expert clinicians specialize in offering comprehensive guidance for parents navigating a child's eating disorder diagnosis. We have forged partnerships with local nutrition experts to craft personalized food plans, aiding in weight restoration and mental well-being. Additionally, we work closely with pediatricians to monitor your child's overall health throughout the treatment. The integrated treatment team, under the guidance of the FBT therapist, ensures smooth communication and expert support during the therapeutic journey.
