The Smith Counseling Group

We are a collective of professionals who are dedicated to providing evidence-based mental health care to individuals and their families.  With over 30 years of experience in the field, our approach is warm, direct, and based in science, with a focus on results that should be evident within the first few weeks of treatment.  We offer a specialty in the areas of eating disorders and the treatment of trauma.

Our Approach

At our center, we focus on tailored services to meet your individual needs. Our services encompass cognitive behavioral therapy tailored for mood and anxiety disorders, with a specialization in eating disorders, family-based treatment (FBT) for eating disorders, and trauma-informed mindfulness-based therapies.

We believe in fostering open communication and collaboration within our diverse team. Family involvement is key to our treatment approach, enhancing the support system for our clients.

Whether you prefer in-person sessions or virtual consultations, our services are available to you within Maryland.

Our Philosophy

At our practice, we prioritize symptom relief and early progress. Our dedicated clinicians actively engage in your treatment, offering expertise with empathy to establish a supportive and secure setting for your recovery journey.

  • "Someone once asked me if Dr. Jacob Smith was a good therapist, and I joked that they should just simply ask my husband for proof. The truth is, they should ask my children, my extended family, and my colleagues. She listens but she also challenges you, makes you do homework, and gives real actionable advice. I recommend her without reservation."

  • “I am truly at a loss when it comes to expressing my gratitude for what you have done for me and my family. How do you thank someone for proving that existing isn't good enough; a life is worth living... and then proceeding to improve every aspect of that life, from communication skills, to family dynamics, to overall health and happiness?”

    J.H.

  • “I am utterly amazed by what we have been able to accomplish in less than two years. My prior therapist of eight years couldn't reach me. My friends and family couldn't reach me. Not even my passion for gymnastics could deter my eating disorder. But you managed to find a way to get through.”
